FREDERICK, Md. - The Salisbury University
volleyball team continued its winning ways on Wednesday evening at
the Gambrill Gymnasium with a straight set victory over Capital
Athletic Conference opponent Hood College.
Salisbury (21-1, 4-0 CAC) was led by senior Stacey
Krebs and junior Nicole Massarelli who
each recorded 14 kills and one solo block in the 25-11, 25-18,
25-6 win. Senior Jaime Marzocchi contributed
25 assists and one service ace in the Gulls' 21st consecutive
victory.
As a team the Gulls did not allow the Blazers to get to the
20-point mark in any set. The maroon and gold smashed 46
kills, made 38 digs and recorded 39 assists as a team in the
CAC match.
Hood (1-12, 0-5 CAC) had a trio of players lead the team in kills
as three Blazers recorded four kills in the match; Ashley Burns,
Chelsea Weaver and Kristina Straub.
With the win the maroon and gold have now claimed 28 straight set
victories and won in shutout fashion in its past nine matches. The
Gulls have not lost a match since August 29, 2008.
Salisbury hopes to continue its winning ways on Friday, October 3,
as the Gulls travel to Newport News, Va., to take on No. 20
Christopher Newport University. In 2007, the Captains won
three matches, in straight sets, against the Sea Gulls. CNU
ultimately ended the Gulls' season 3-0 in the first round of the
2007 NCAA tournament.
