SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University
softball team closed out its Sea Gull Tournament on Sunday
afternoon with a sweep of Capital University and Wilson College. SU
defeated Capital 8-4 and then blasted Wilson 27-0 in five innings
to end the tournament. The Sea Gulls went a perfect 4-0 in the
two-day tournament.
SU sophomore shortstop Kelly Waskewicz batted
6-for-8 in the two games as she scored five runs and knocked in
five RBIs. Waskewicz went a perfect 4-for-4 against Wilson as she
clubbed two home runs and had a triple. Sophomore catcher
Lauren Brenneman had the lone home run in the
Capital win as she batted 4-for-6 in the two games and scored five
times and drove in four runs. Freshman Kristin
Lord had a big day at the plate for the Sea Gulls as she
batted a combine 5-for-6, scored five runs, a team-high seven RBIs
and a home run. Sophomore first baseman Ali Ritter
went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs against Wilson
while teammate Jen Cahall batted 4-for-5, scored
four runs and four RBIs.
The Sea Gulls (11-5) scored two runs in the second inning and
added five in the third against Capital. Junior Stacy
Davis (7-2) earned the win as she went the distance and
allowed four runs (three earned) on 10 hits, four walks and four
strikeouts.
In the second game, Salisbury was the designated visiting team.
The Sea Gulls scored a run in every inning against Wilson. SU
scored nine in the top of the first and 10 in the second inning.
The maroon and gold had 20 hits and six extra-base hits. Senior
Kortni Pedlow (2-1) and freshman Kim
Ruppert combined in the five-inning shutout as Pedlow
allowed two hits as she struck out four. Ruppert pitched the final
two innings and struck out three Wilson batters.
Salisbury next hosts No. 9 Ithaca College and The College of New
Jersey on Saturday, March 22, at the SU Softball Field. The Sea
Gulls will face the Bombers at 10 a.m. followed by a 2 p.m. game
with the Lions.
