SALISBURY, Md. - Junior Stacy
Davis pitched Salisbury University to a doubleheader sweep
on a blustery Monday against the Catholic University softball team
as she earned a win in both games for the Sea Gulls. Davis threw a
perfect game against the Cardinals in the first game that SU won,
8-0, in six innings. She came in on relief in the second game to
earn the win as the teams needed an extra inning as the Sea Gulls
won 3-2 in eight innings.
Davis (11-3) pitched six scoreless innings in the first game and
struck out seven Cardinal batters. She then relieved senior
Kortni Pedlow in the second game and hurled four
more innings of scoreless ball and only allowed two hits, walked
one and struck out one.
Sophomore catcher Lauren Brenneman ended the
second game in the bottom of the eighth when she singled up the
middle off Stacie Goddard (5-5) to score Brittany
Lounge from second base. Salisbury (18-6) has won seven
straight while the Cardinals fell to 11-9 this season. Brenneman
had a hit in each game to extend her hitting streak to 10-games.
In the second game, both teams scored two runs in the fourth
inning. Catholic got on the board with RBIs by Goddard and Kara
Walker. Salisbury answered in the bottom half as Kristin
Lord brought home Lounge and Stacey
Malarkey on a single.
SU started out strong in the first game as the Sea Gulls pushed
across two runs in the first inning, two in the fourth, three in
the fifth and one in the sixth to end the game. Four Sea Gulls had
two hits in the win including Kelly Waskewicz (two
runs), Lounge (two runs), Davis (one RBI) and Jen
Cahall (two RBIs). Malarkey had two RBIs in the win as
well.
The Sea Gulls will next be in action Wednesday, April 2, as SU
travels to Washington, D.C. to face Gallaudet University at 3 p.m.
