Box Score 2 FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Salisbury University
softball team saw its 10-game winning streak snapped in the second
game of Thursday's Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader against
University of Mary Washington. The Sea Gulls won the first game 3-2
on the road but dropped a 5-3 contest in the second game.
Salisbury (21-7, 7-1 CAC) got on the scoreboard early in the
first game as the Sea Gulls scored a run in the first inning and
two in the third. First baseman Ali Ritter
(2-for-3, two runs, double) knocked in shortstop Kelly
Waskewicz in the third and later scored on a RBI hit by
catcher Lauren Brenneman. SU starting pitcher
Stacy Davis (13-3) pitched five scoreless innings
before the Eagles came alive late and scored a run in the sixth and
seventh innings. Freshman Kelsey Mills made her SU
debut and got the final out to record the save.
Mary Washington (22-15, 9-3 CAC) scored first in the second game
as the Eagles took an early 1-0 lead after one inning of play. The
Eagles would later chase SU starting pitcher Kortni
Pedlow (6-2) in the fourth as UMW scored three runs to
break open a 1-1 game. Mills was called upon to finish out the game
for the Sea Gulls. Salisbury scored a run in the fourth, sixth and
seventh innings. Waskewicz (two runs) slammed her CAC leading 12th
home run in the top of the sixth to cut the UMW lead to three, 5-2.
There is little rest for Salisbury as the Sea Gulls turn around
to host York (Pa.) College in a CAC doubleheader on Friday, April
11, at 2:30 p.m. The two teams were slated to face each other on
Saturday but expected rain showers moved the game up one day.
Salisbury will close out its CAC regular-season schedule on Sunday
with a doubleheader in Frederick, Md., against Hood College.
