GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Salisbury University
softball team crushed non-conference opponent Gettysburg College on
the road Tuesday in a doubleheader. Fresh off Sunday's Capital
Athletic Conference championship, the Sea Gulls stayed focused and
took it to the Bullets winning 11-1 in the opener and 8-0 in the
second.
The Sea Gulls (30-7) came out hard the first game as sophomore
Ali Ritter's (4-for-6, five RBI) double to left
field allowed Brittany Lounge, Kristin
Lord (4-for-7, two runs) and Stacey
Malarkey (three hits, four RBI) to score. Stacy
Davis and Kurisha Hoffman each had
sacrifice hits in the fourth inning which resulted in two runs
which made it 6-0 in favor of SU. Wild pitches by Gettysburg
(13-16) opened the door for four runs to be scored in the fifth
inning, which ended the game due to the eight-run slaughter rule.
Davis (17-3) took control in the circle as she kept the Bullet
offense scoreless through four innings of work. Freshman
Kelsey Mills pitched the bottom of the fifth with
an 11-0 lead as she allowed one run.
In the second game, senior Kortni Pedlow (10-2)
earned her 10th win of the season as she held Gettysburg scoreless
for five innings. Pedlow allowed no hits, walked three and struck
out eight Bullet batters in the six-inning win.
Malarkey had two RBI while Ritter and Hoffman added one apiece
to rack up the runs for the Sea Gulls. A triple by Lauren
Brenneman (2-for-4, three runs, two RBI in game two) in
the fourth inning brought home two more runs for Salisbury as they
lead the Bullets 5-0. Brenneman scored a combined six runs in the
doubleheader sweep of Gettysburg.
Three runs in the sixth inning by Alex
Winstead, Malarkey and Brenneman were enough to seal the
8-0 shutout win.
For the Bullets, pitchers Kristy Rubino (7-8) and Beth
McCullough (6-7) took the losses for game one and two,
respectively.
The Sea Gulls will wrap up their regular season with a
doubleheader on the road at McDaniel College in Westminster, Md.,
next Wednesday, April 30, at 3:30 p.m.
