HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Salisbury University
volleyball team upset No. 17 Stevens Institute of Technology 3-0 on
Saturday at Juniata College. The win is the first for Salisbury
(1-1) this season as the Sea Gulls won 25-23, 25-16, 25-16.
Juniors Rachel Downes (nine kills, nine digs)
and Nicole Massarelli (six kills) along with
senior Stacey Krebs (seven kills, nine digs) led
the charge for the Sea Gull offense. Salisbury had five players
make nine or more digs in the victory over the nationally ranked
Ducks. The Gulls were led by senior Jaime
Marzocchi's 11 digs and 23 assists. Junior Gabby
Long added 10 digs as SU compiled 57 digs to Steven's 46.
Sarah Burne and Maggie Majcher each recorded eight kills in the
loss for the Ducks.
Last season, the two teams met at the Swarthmore Tournament where
the Ducks edged the Gulls, 3-2.
Salisbury will next participate in the Battlefield Classic
hosted by Gettysburg College next weekend. The Sea Gulls will
face Eastern Mennonite University on Friday, September 5, at 7
p.m. in Gettysburg, Pa.
