SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury
University volleyball team tallied its 11th consecutive win
Wednesday night with a 3-0 decision against Marymount (Va.)
University in the home opener at the Maggs Center.
Salisbury (11-1, 2-0 Capital Athletic Conference) opened
its home conference schedule with its eighth shutout of
the year. The defending CAC champions made quick work of the Saints
with victories in all three matches; 25-12, 25-12, 25-9. SU was led
by senior Stacey Krebs who recorded a
double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs. Fellow senior
Jaime Marzocchi was impressive as well with 29
assists. Juniors Nicole Massarelli (seven kills,
four service aces) and Rachel Downes (six
kills, eight digs) helped SU upfront. Junior libero
Gabby Long made a team-high 13 digs in the win.
Sophomore Melissa Stansbury came off the bench in
all three games and made six digs.
Marymount (1-8, 0-2 CAC) suffered its third straight conference
loss this season.
The Sea Gulls will continue its two week home stand on Friday
night as they host the Sea Gull Classic. The maroon and gold
will face Virginia Wesleyan College at 5 p.m. followed by a
match against Swarthmore College at 7 p.m. Salisbury defeated
VWC 3-2 last season while the Gulls swept two matches from
Swarthmore last weekend in the Garnet Classic.
