Sea Gulls close out CNU Invitational with two losses

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Salisbury University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Saturday afternoon at the CNU Invitational, hosted by Christopher Newport University. The Sea Gulls fell to No. 2 Juniata College in their first match of the day and then lost to the host Captains to close out the event.

Freshman middle hitter Chelsea Glowacki (Poolesville, Md.) led the way for Salisbury in its 25-19, 25-15, 25-15 loss to Juniata, posting four kills to go with three total blocks. Freshman setter Carley Todd (Centerport, N.Y.) added four kills and three assist blocks while senior middle hitter Nicole Massarelli (Clarksville, Md.) had five kills and four total blocks.

Salisbury (19-4, 4-0 Capital Athletic Conference) closed out one of the tougher tournaments in the country with a 25-12, 25-20, 25-17 loss to the Captains. Massarelli finished with five kills on 17 attempts and had no attack errors for Salisbury against the Captains, while senior libero Gabby Long (Bel Air, Md.) added 13 digs, junior outside hitter Lexy Fitzkee (Fallston, Md.) had 10 digs and Glowacki had four assist blocks to go with two kills.

The Sea Gulls will be back in action Tuesday night when they host Capital Athletic Conference foe Gallaudet University. The match will be part of the Dig Pink rally, aimed to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. The festivities will include a silent auction and a serving contest featuring prizes from a number of local retailers.
