SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University softball began the 2009 SU Invitational on Friday with two victories at Sea Gull Field. Salisbury upset No. 23 Ithaca College 5-2 and no-hit SUNY Plattsburgh 4-0 in an earlier game.

Sophomore pitcher Kelsey Mills tossed her second no-hitter this season as shutout the Cardinals (4-12) in the first game of the day for the Sea Gulls (11-4). This was the second straight win for SU over Plattsburgh as the two schools met on Thursday as the maroon and gold came away with a 5-1 victory. Senior second baseman Stacey Malarkey (two runs, one stolen base), junior first baseman Ali Ritter (one stolen base) and Mills all recorded one RBI in the win. Plattsburgh pitcher Heather Loughran suffered the loss as she pitched five innings, allowed four runs on four hits and walked three.

In the second game, Salisbury's entire starting line-up recorded at least one hit in the three-run victory over the nationally-ranked Bombers from Ithaca. Salisbury scored the game's first run in the first inning before Ithaca quickly answered with its own run in the second. The Sea Gulls regained the lead in the bottom half before SU added a cushion in the fifth inning. Junior Kelly Waskewicz crushed a two-run home run to left field, the second in as many days, as the Sea Gulls led 4-1. Malarkey, Ritter and senior outfielder Meaghan O'Gara all had one RBI in the win over Ithaca. This is fourth win over a ranked team for the Sea Gulls this season.
