OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The No. 18 Salisbury
University softball team swept its fourth straight doubleheader on
Thursday as the Sea Gulls took two from Capital Athletic Conference
foe Stevenson University. The Sea Gulls won the first game 11-1 and
followed that with a 12-0 shutout as the maroon and gold has won 17
straight games.
Salisbury (21-4, 6-0 CAC) received two terrific pitching
performances from senior Stacy Davis and sophomore
Kelsey Mills. Davis (12-2) started things off with
a complete game as she allowed one Stevenson home run in the second
inning and struck out 10 batters in six innings of work. In the
second game, Mills (8-2) went the distance in five innings as she
allowed two hits, walked one and struck out seven.
In the first game, Salisbury scored a run in every inning except
the second as the Sea Gulls recorded 14 hits. Senior outfielder
Meaghan O'Gara (3-for-3) went deep in the fifth
inning with a two-run home run, her fifth of the season. Designated
player Brittany Lounge (two runs), second baseman
Stacey Malarkey (one run), Davis (two runs) and
third baseman Kristin Lord (four RBIs) all had two
hits in the win.
SU only scored runs in two innings in the second game but the
Sea Gulls made the most of their opportunities as they played four
runs in the second and eight in the fourth. Shortstop Kelly
Waskewicz batted 4-for-4 in the game as the All-American
slammed a two-run home run in the fourth inning and batted a second
time in the inning and delivered a RBI double. Malarkey (2-for-2)
blasted a two-run home run of her own in the fourth while first
baseman Ali Ritter (2-for-3) went deep with her
second home run of the season. Lounge (one run) and O'Gara (three
runs) each had two hits in the win.
Salisbury returns home to host University of Mary Washington in
a CAC doubleheader on Saturday, April 4, at Noon.
