Box Score 2 The Salisbury University volleyball team finished off their play
at the Battlefield Classic by splitting two matches on the final
day of the tournament falling to Gettysburg 25-17, 22-25, 25-12,
25-22 and topping Carnegie Mellon 25-23, 25-18, 25-18.
Salisbury finished the two-day event with a 3-1 record, and was
honored with senior outside hitter Rachel Downes being named to the
Battlefield Classic All-Tournament team. After a big day on Friday,
Downes added to her impressive performance with 12 kills in the
Gettysburg match and 10 more against Carnegie Mellon on day two.
With the morning's loss to Gettysburg, the Sea Gulls suffered
their first loss in 35 regular-season matches. Jenna Shay
(Dunkirk, Md.) and Lexy Fitzkee (Fallston,
Md.) each recorded eight kills in the match. Libero
Gabby Long (Bel Air, Md.) had 19 digs and setter
Carley Todd (Centerport, N.Y.) had 20 assists in
the match.
The Sea Gulls bounced back with a three-game win against
Carnegie Mellon as Chelsea Glowacki (Poolesville,
Md.) had nine kills in the match and
Nicole Massarelli (Clarksville,
Md.) added six. Long was good for 25 digs in the victory.
The Sea Gulls will be on the road for two more weeks, first
traveling to the Washington & Jefferson Tournament, followed by
a CAC Conference match up at York College. They will return home on
Sept. 18 and 19 to host the SU Invitational.
