Salisbury crushes York in CAC action; McGrew hits career-high 19 points

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. - It may have been a chilly night in Salisbury, but 138 dedicated fans made their way to Maggs Physical Activities Center to watch the men's basketball team square off against Capital Athletic Conference foe York (Pa.) College. The trip was certainly worth it, as the Sea Gulls crushed the Spartans, 78-71.

The first half belonged to junior center Chris McGrew. The Burtonsville, Md., native netted 12 points and propelled the Sea Gulls (6-7, 2-3 CAC) to a 36-34 lead at the half. McGrew continued his hot streak by opening up scoring in the second half, hitting a lay-up under the net before being fouled and subsequently converting the three-point play; he scored five of Salisbury's first 10 points to start the second. McGrew bested his previous career-best of 18 points by netting 19 points in the victory. Additionally, he scooped up nine rebounds.

Senior guard/forward Greg Palmer (Salisbury, Md.), who is now just three points away from his 1,000th career point, netted 19 in the Sea Gulls' second conference win of the season. Senior guard Devin Jones (Severn, Md.) also came up big, scoring 18 points in the Sea Gull victory. Sophomore forward Mike Maczko (Bel Air, Md.) tied his career-best in assists, dishing out five. Collectively, the maroon and gold shot almost 50% from the floor, good for their third-best total this season. Salisbury has won the last four consecutive games in its series against York (12-3, 4-2 CAC).

Salisbury will look to continue its winning streak, on the road, as the Sea Gulls face off against CAC opponent Wesley College on Jan. 16. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
