Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury
University women's basketball team came prepared to play on
Wednesday night as the Sea Gulls hosted Capital Athletic Conference
foe York (Pa.) College, but the maroon and gold's valiant effort
wasn't enough to edge York as they fell to the Spartans, 67-64.
The Sea Gulls (5-7, 2-3 CAC) shot out of the gates in the
opening minutes of play, eventually amassing an eight-point lead
with 7:49 remaining in the first half. The Spartans (7-6, 3-2
CAC) were quick to answer back, though, eventually surpassing
Salisbury's lead and taking a one-point advantage into the locker
room. Senior forwards Kylie Hall
(Baltimore, Md.) and Janay
Johnson (Baltimore, Md.) both hit double-digit point
totals in the first half, netting 12 and 10 points,
respectively.
York maintained and added on to its lead in the second half;
unfazed, the Sea Gulls stormed the floor and a nothing-but-net
jumper by freshman forward Nicole
Sisco (Fairlawn, N.J.) with 6:29 left to play gave
Salisbury its first lead of the half. The maroon and gold began to
pull away from that point on, leading by as many as five, but York
battled back and captured the win by a mere three points.
It was a career night for Hall, who shattered her previous
rebounds record as she pulled down 19; she finished the game with
21 points, just a bucket shy of her career-high points
record. Junior guard Chante'
McKinney (Gaithersburg, Md.) was the third Sea Gull to
pull double-digit point totals, netting 10 on the night. Johnson
finished with 14.
The Sea Gulls will look to regroup and hit the road to play CAC
opponent Wesley College on Jan. 16 at 2 p.m.
