Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - The Salisbury University
volleyball team extended its win streak to four matches on Friday
evening, collecting a 3-0 victory at Capital Athletic Conference
opponent Hood College. The 25-15, 25-18, 25-17 victory
marks the Sea Gulls' 14th straight-set win of the season.
Salisbury (18-10, 5-2 CAC) was led by sophomore setter
Carley
Todd, who posted a team-high 16 digs and four
block-assists to go with her eight kills and 10 assists. Sophomore
Kelly
Vieira had 13 digs, one solo block and three
block-assists in the victory. Salisbury won the first two games of
the set without great difficulty.
Hood (5-14, 0-8 CAC), however, would not go down without a
fight. The Blazers opened up the third game with a 3-0 scoring run,
but Salisbury would answer back with three points of its own to
knot up the score. That back-and-forth action would continue until
later on in the game when a string of five-straight Sea Gull points
would increase the Salisbury advantage to 21-13 and limit any
further opportunities for the Blazers.
The match was part of Hood's "Dig Pink" night, a fundraiser to
promote breast cancer awareness. Salisbury's own community event,
the first-ever "Digs for Dogs" match, raised over $2,200 for the
Humane Society of Wicomico County and The Dog House last night.
The Sea Gulls return home on Wednesday, Oct. 27, to square off
against CAC foe York (Pa.) College. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
