Box Score 2 ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University volleyball team collected a straight-set victory against Davis & Elkins College on Friday afternoon in the first day of the Seahawk Invitational, hosted by St. Mary's (Md.) College. In their second match of the night, however, the Sea Gulls fell by a score of 3-1 to Virginia Wesleyan College.
The 3-0 win against Davis & Elkins marked Salisbury's (20-11, 6-2 Capital Athletic Conference) 15th straight-set victory of the season. The team was led by sophomore Jenna Shay, who registered a team-high 12 kills. Classmate Carley Todd notched a team-high of her own, 22 set-assists, while chipping in five kills and seven digs.
While the second match was not as successful for Salisbury, several players put up big numbers in the effort. Two of those players were sophomores Kelly Vieira and Kristin Jehle, with Vieira registering 14 digs and four kills and Jehle posting 11 kills and two service aces. Senior Melissa Stansbury notched 22 digs and four set-assists in the tough loss against Virginia Wesleyan.
Salisbury will play two matches tomorrow, against Bridgewater (Va.) College and the University of the District of Columbia, to wrap up play at the Seahawk Invitational. The matches are set to begin at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
