Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University volleyball team traveled to the University of Mary Washington on Thursday in search of a win that would advance the squad to its fourth-straight Capital Athletic Conference championship game. The ball was not in the Sea Gulls' court, however, as the Eagles captured a 3-0 victory in the CAC semifinal match to move on to the title match.
Mary Washington (19-8) won its first set by a score of 25-17, but a valiant Sea Gull effort at the start of the second game put pressure on the Eagles. Despite the effort, Mary Washington prevailed in both the second and third sets (25-23, 25-15) to end Salisbury's (23-12) tournament run and prevent the No. 3-seeded Sea Gulls from capturing what would have been their fourth consecutive CAC championship. With the win, the second-seed Eagles advance to the championship game against top-seed Frostburg State University on Saturday, Nov. 6.
Sophomore Chelsea Glowacki led the Sea Gulls with eight kills. Senior Melissa Stansbury chipped in a team-high 12 digs.
Salisbury will now await the announcement of the NCAA Division III Volleyball tournament field on Monday, Nov. 8. The Sea Gulls have made six tournament appearances in the program's history, including three-straight appearances in 2007, '08 and '09.
