Box Score SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team dropped its home opener 64-49 to Hood College in a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) contest at the Maggs Physical Activities Center on Wednesday evening.
The Sea Gulls (2-3, 0-2 CAC) opened up the contest with a made layup by senior center Chris McGrew off an assist from senior guard Eric Johnson at the 19:44 mark. The Blazers (3-2, 1-0 CAC) went on a 20-6 run over the next 11 minutes of action to push the lead to 20-8. SU was able to bring the score back to single digits at the 2:48 mark as senior guard David Pearman converted a three-point shot to bring the Hood lead to eight. Hood's Herb Bowen made a three-pointer with eight seconds left in the first half to send the two teams into the locker rooms with Hood holding a 35-24 advantage.
Hood was able to hold the double-digit lead throughout the second half, extending the lead to as high as 19 points at one point.
McGrew led the Sea Gulls in the contest as he posted a season-high 21 points and pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Pearman was the only other Salisbury player to collect double-digit point totals as he scored 13 points in a team-high 38 minutes of action.
The Blazers were led by Tyler Snoots who scored 18 points and secured five rebounds in the victory. Bowen finished with 15 points for Hood.
Salisbury is set to host the 2010 Optimist Classic this Friday and Saturday. The Sea Gulls will play Anna Maria College on Friday at 8 p.m. SU will then advance to either the consolation or championship game against Ramapo College or Southern Virginia University on Saturday.
