Sea Gulls capture first CAC victory of 2010-11 campaign; Maczko tallies double-double

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team notched a 68-49 Capital Athletic Conference victory on Wednesday night over visiting Marymount (Va.) University.

The Sea Gulls (4-4, 1-2 CAC) came out blazing hot as they tallied the game's first 16 points of the contest. SU led 16-0 before Marymount's Aaron Walsh hit a three-point shot with 12:24 left in the first stanza. Salisbury would hold a double-digit lead the rest of the half, extending it to as high as 20 after a made three-point shot by senior guard David Pearman. The Saints were able to bring the lead down to 14 with just one second left in the period, as Keenan Brown converted a layup off a full-court pass from Bryan DeBruin. Pearman and senior guard Eric Johnson each made two three-point attempts in the first half.

Salisbury was able to keep the double-digit lead throughout the second period, as Marymount could get no closer than 13 points.

Junior forward Mike Maczko recorded his second double-double of the 2010-11 campaign, as he scored 11 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. The Bel Air, Md., native also handed out five assists in the victory. Senior center Chris McGrew scored a game-high 19 points, while Pearman finished with 18 for the maroon and gold. Johnson was the final Sea Gull to reach the 10-point plateau, as he finished with 10 points in the contest.

The Saints (1-7, 0-4 CAC) were led by Brown, who finished with a team-high 11 points in 37 minutes of action. DeBruin tallied five points and pulled down a team-high five rebounds.

The Sea Gulls will look to claim their second regular-season tournament championship of the season, as they will head to the PNC/Ramada Inn Classic hosted by King's (Pa.) College this Friday and Saturday. Salisbury will take on Brooklyn College this Friday at 6 p.m.
