NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The No. 2 Salisbury
University women's lacrosse team opened up the 2010 season with
21-6 road victory over Christopher Newport University on Saturday.
The two teams have played each year since 2004, with the Sea Gulls
holding a perfect 7-0 record against the Captains.
SU (1-0) was led by senior midfielder Beth Rhodey (Fallston,
Md.) and junior attacker Logan Bilderback
(Arnold, Md.) as they each registered five points.
Rhodey scored a team-high four goals, with Bilderback just one
behind with three. Juniors Meagan Osipowich
(Hauppauge, N.Y.) (two assists) and Aileen McCausland
(Phoenix, Md.) each scored two goals in the victory.
Senior All-American Jessica Chmielewski
(Woodbine, Md.) impressed in her first game back from
an injury that held her out of most of the '09 season, as she
tallied two assists. Freshman Roxanne Raab
(Fallston, Md.) scored her first collegiate goal on a
free-position attempt.
The Sea Gulls played three goalies in the contest, with junior
Julie Ann
Caulfield (Drexel Hill, Pa.) getting the start.
Freshmen Keli Berkman
(Salisbury, Md.) and Ali Meeks (Pasadena,
Md.) also saw time in between the pipes for the
Gulls.
The maroon and gold will get right back to work tomorrow, as they
host Hood College in the home opener at Sea Gull Stadium. Game time
is set for 1 p.m.
