SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University
baseball team kicked off the Capital Athletic Conference tournament
with a 17-4 victory over St. Mary's (Md.) College on Wednesday
afternoon at the SU Baseball Field. The Sea Gulls will be back in
action on Thursday, when they are set to host Wesley College at
3:30 p.m.
The visiting Seahawks (9-22) opened the contest with one run in
the first inning off SU starter Dustin
Herbert (Huntingtown, Md.). The Sea Gulls (23-6)
quickly responded with a solo home run by junior leadoff hitter
Andrew
Miller (Schwenksville, Pa.) in the bottom of the first
inning. The maroon and gold tacked on three more runs in the bottom
of the second, as senior Mike Celenza
(Gaithersburg, Md.) hit a three-run home run over the center field
fence. The Sea Gulls tallied a pair of runs in the third and fourth
innings to increase their lead to 8-2.
The Sea Gulls' bats came alive in the bottom of the sixth
inning, as nine runs came across the plate. Senior Chad Wolfe
(Thurmont, Md.) ripped a double into left-center field that drove

Quaglietta (Monroe Township, N.J.) had a single
through the right side that plated two SU runners.
SU junior pitcher Drew Baldwin
(Winston-Salem, N.C.) notched his fourth win of the season as he
pitched two innings and finished with one strikeout. Herbert went
four innings, racked up six strike outs and gave up three runs, two
earned.
Salisbury's opponent for Thursday, Wesley College, fell victim
to Stevenson University 7-4 in other CAC tournament action on
Wednesday. The Sea Gulls are 0-1 all-time against the Wolverines in
CAC tournament play, as the Gulls lost 4-2 in the second round of
the 2009 CAC tournament.
