SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 10 Salisbury
University softball team earned its second Capital Athletic
Conference tournament win on Thursday against the Blazers of Hood
College in a decisive 8-1 victory. This is the Sea Gulls' 27th
straight win this season.
The Gulls (27-2) were quick to get on the board as they took
advantage of a pair of Blazer errors in the first inning, plating
junior Kristin
Lord (Denton, Md.) and senior Lauren
Brenneman (York, Pa.). With two outs and senior
Ali
Ritter (Belvidere, N.J.) on third base freshman
Michelle
Gravdahl (Ellicott City, Md.) hit her second home run
of the season out over the left field fence to bring the lead to
4-0 through one inning of play.
Salisbury plated three additional runs in the second and fourth
inning to bring the score to 7-0.
Junior Kelly
Leary (Severn, Md.) earned her 14th win of the season
as she kept the Blazers at bay until she was relieved in the top of
the fifth inning by sophomore Erika
Brittingham (Georgetown, Del.).
The Blazers would tack one run onto the board in the top of the
fifth but the margin was too great as Salisbury brought another run
across the plate in the bottom of the sixth.
The pitching duo allowed only one run off four hits, walked
three and struck out six on the day.
Salisbury will host the last two days of CAC tournament play
this weekend. The Sea Gulls' next game will be Saturday at 11 a.m.,
against York (Pa.) College. A win in that game would move the Sea
Gulls into the championship game on Sunday.
