Box Score 2 SALISBURY, Md. – The
Salisbury University volleyball team welcomed Eastern University,
Gallaudet University and Baldwin-Wallace College to Maggs Physical
Activities Center on Friday evening for the annual SU Invitational.
In what were their first contests at home this season, the Sea
Gulls dropped a 3-1 decision to undefeated Eastern before bouncing
back with a resounding 3-0 win against Baldwin-Wallace.
The maroon and gold started off the evening with a 26-24 win in
the first game against the Eagles (12-0), but were unable to
capture any more sets as Eastern won the next three straight to
take the match. Sophomore Chelsea
Glowacki notched a team-high 10 kills, with senior
Melissa
Stansbury not far behind with nine. Stansbury also
posted 12 digs. Sophomore Carley
Todd led the charge for the maroon and gold in the
digs department, registering 17, while providing her teammates with
18 set assists.
Salisbury's 3-0 victory against Baldwin-Wallace
(10-4) marks the team's seventh straight-set win of
the season. The Gulls quickly went up 2-0, earning 25-15 and 25-18
set victories, but the Yellow Jackets wouldn't be swatted away
without a fight. The third game went back and forth with the teams
exchanging solid serves and kills, but Salisbury eventually
prevailed by a score of 26-24. Freshman Erin
Lange notched two service aces for the maroon and gold
while Glowacki added to her evening's impressive kill totals,
posting nine.
Salisbury (8-3) wraps up play in the two-day invitational
tomorrow morning, beginning with a match against Gallaudet (5-6) at
10 a.m. The Sea Gulls will play again at noon; their opponent will
be determined by the outcome of the Baldwin-Wallace/Eastern match,
set to be played at 10 a.m.
