Box Score ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team dropped an 81-74 Capital Athletic Conference contest to host St. Mary's (Md.) College on Wednesday evening.
The Sea Gulls (7-10, 2-6 CAC) tallied the game's first bucket at the 19:37 mark as senior center Chris McGrew made a lay-up. Over the next six minutes, the Seahawks (13-4, 7-1 CAC) went on a 25-6 run, with St. Mary's holding a 17-point advantage. SU was able to bring the lead back down to single digits, with St. Mary's leading 38-30 as the two teams headed for the locker rooms.
St. Mary's scored the first four points of the second half before a pair of made free throws by junior guard Devin Posey gave SU its first points of the second stanza. At the 14:38 mark, the Seahawks extended their lead back to double-digits, extending it to as high as 15 points. SU would finally bring the lead to within seven points after a made three-point shot by junior forward Mike Maczko with 43 seconds remaining. Mike Fitzpatrick would convert a pair of free throws for St. Mary's and McGrew would close out the game with a lay-up to bring the score to its final at 81-74.
Salisbury was led by McGrew, who scored a team-high 17 points in 19 minutes of action. Junior guard Mike Atkins tallied 16 points in the contest, including three made three-point shots. Senior guard Eric Johnson nearly recorded a double-double, finishing with 11 points and a game-high eight assists.
St. Mary's received a game-high 32 points out of Alex Franz, as he converted 5-of-11 three-point attempts. James Davenport scored 12 points and blocked one shot for the Seahawks.
The Sea Gulls are set to return to the Maggs Physical Activities Center next Wednesday against Stevenson University. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
