Box Score SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University volleyball team clinched the No. 1 seed in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament and remained undefeated in the CAC with a 3-0 win over Hood College on Thursday. The Gulls outscored the Blazers 75-29 in the match by winning the sets 25-11, 25-8 and 25-10.
Salisbury (25-3, 7-0 CAC) was leading the first set 15-10 before going on a 10-1 run to finished out the game. Sophomore outside hitter Sam Seifert had two kills and freshman outside hitter Jess Wittwer had a service ace to lead the Gulls late in the game.
Seifert led the team with eight kills in the match.
In the second set, Hood (9-13, 1-6 CAC) took a 3-1 lead early on. The Gulls fought back and, with the set tied at three, junior setter Carley Todd served for eight-straight points as the Gulls built the lead to 11-3. Salisbury outscored the Blazers 14-5 the rest of the way as it took the two-set lead.
Salisbury didn't look back and continued to score points in bunches during the third set to sweep the match.
Todd was second on the team with six kills along with accumulating nine assists. Senior setter Lindsey Saltzman led the team with 19 assists.
Salisbury will play again on Saturday in a tri-match at Elizabethtown College. The Gulls start the day at 11 a.m., facing off against Elizabethtown, before taking on Goucher College at 1 p.m.
