Box Score 2 NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Salisbury University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the CNU Invitational on Saturday, falling 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-17, 25-21) to No. 11 Juniata College and 3-2 (23-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-23, 15-6) to host and sixth-ranked Christopher Newport University at the Freeman Center.
The losses for Salisbury (19-3) snapped a 13-match winning streak while Juniata and Christopher Newport improved to 16-5 and 21-3, respectively.
Against Juniata, Jenna Shay recorded a team-high 11 kills while Chelsea Glowacki and Sam Seifert had 10 kills apiece. Glowacki also tallied eight total blocks.
Carley Todd picked up a double-double of 22 assists and 10 digs and Lindsey Saltzman just missed one of her own with 20 assists and nine digs.
Overall, four players had double-digit digs for the Sea Gulls, including Kelly Vieira and Michelle Meehan (17 each) and Glowacki (12).
Down 1-0 in the second game, Salisbury broke open a 14-14 tie with a 4-0 run that included kills from Julie Poston and Vieira and a block by Vieira and Todd and didn't give up the lead on its way to tying the match at one.
The Eagles took the final two games of the match. Juniata College built an eight-point lead, 24-16, late in the third and cruised to the win, securing the 2-1 advantage.
In the fourth game, the Sea Gulls earned a 14-11 lead on a Vieira block but the Eagles rallied to take a 16-15 lead on a Rachelle Wiegand kill and eventually the match on another Wiegard kill.
The Eagles were led by Kelsey Fuller with a match-high 14 kills. Wiegand chipped in with 13 kills as well and 10 digs for one of two Juniata double-doubles in the match. Courtney Greenberg had the other, registering a match-best 46 assists while adding 15 digs.
Libby Morrison finished with a match-high 25 digs for Juniata.
Todd recorded her fifth triple-double of the season against CNU. She was one of three Gulls with 13 kills. Todd also posted 30 assists, 18 digs, two service aces and two blocks to pace SU.
Shay and Seifert also had 13 kills and Saltzman tallied her second double-double of the day with 23 assists and 16 digs. Vieira also had a double-double of 10 kills and 15 digs.
SU erased a 19-16 CNU lead in the first game to take a two-point win on a Meehan service ace. The Captains bounced back to take the second game, holding the Gulls to just six points after the game was knotted at 10-all.
The Sea Gulls went back up by one as Seifert converted a swing that made it 15-14 and SU didn't look back. The Captains, though, took the final two sets to win the match.
Tournament MVP Bailey Jensen picked up a match-high 14 kills and added 12 assists. Alyssa Kidd finished with a match-best 27 assists.
Shay and Todd earned all-tournament team honors for Salisbury.
SU returns to action at Wesley College Tuesday at 7 p.m.
