ARLINGTON, Va. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team dropped a 64-57 decision at Marymount (Va.) University on Tuesday night.

After the Saints (3-5, 1-2 Capital Athletic Conference) opened the game on a 5-0 run, Salisbury climbed back and took its first lead off a 7-0 run on a three-pointer from senior Mike Atkins, followed by a pair of free throws and a tip-in from junior Trent Epps.

The game was tied at 10-10 before the Sea Gulls (5-3, 0-2 CAC) put together six straight points on threes from Atkins and freshman Tim Harwood. The 16-10 advantage would prove to be the largest lead of the night for Salisbury, as the hot shooting from outside cooled from that point on.

Salisbury opened the game 4-for-8 from beyond the arc, but would connect on just four of its remaining 16 three-pointers in the game. Salisbury shot 33.3 percent from outside and 36.5 percent overall from the floor in the game.

The Sea Gulls maintained their lead until halftime, taking a 29-26 advantage to the locker room, but an 11-3 Marymount run to open the second half gave the Saints a lead they would hold on to for the remainder of the contest.

Atkins and senior Devin Posey each scored 11 points and dished out three assists for Salisbury while Epps and senior Mike Maczko each came up one point short of double figures.

Salisbury will play four of its next five games at home. The Sea Gulls' next contest with be this Saturday, Dec. 10, hosting Stevenson University at Maggs Physical Activities Center. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.; it will mark the second of three scheduled meetings this season between the two programs. Salisbury earned a 73-61 win in the season opener against the Mustangs.
