Sea Gulls fall to York College to close out 2010-11 campaign

YORK, Pa. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team saw its season come to a close as the Sea Gulls fell 64-56 at York (Pa.) College on Saturday afternoon.

The Sea Gulls (9-16, 6-10 CAC) entered the day needing a victory to edge out St. Mary's (Md.) College (11-13, 7-9 CAC) for the sixth and final spot in the upcoming CAC tournament, but fell short with today's loss.

Salisbury trailed early, as York (13-12, 10-6 CAC) jumped out to an 8-2 lead at the 16:54 mark, but battled hard over the next seven minutes. At the 9:08 mark, the Sea Gulls took their first lead of the game as sophomore forward Katie McGahagandrained an open three-pointer to give SU an 18-17 lead. The two teams continued to trade baskets over the next several minutes and the scoreboard reflected it, as the score was 25-25 with 4:19 remaining. Over the last four minutes, the Spartans went on a 10-2 run to take a 35-27 lead into the locker room.

York maintained the double-digit lead throughout most of the second half, extending the lead to as high as 15 (50-35) at the 10:39 mark. The Sea Gulls cut the lead down to six with less than a minute remaining, as sophomore forward Nicole Siscodelivered a powerful post move that led to an easy layup. The Spartans converted six-of-six free throws to close out the contest and claim the victory.

Junior guard Glen Charlton and McGahagan led the way for the Sea Gulls, as they each scored 13 points in the contest. Sisco finished with 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Junior guard Milan Drywas the final member of the maroon and gold to reach the double-digit point threshold, with 11 points.

The Spartans received a game-high 23 points from Kristen Haley, while Jamie Sapp pitched in with 15 points in the victory.

Today's game marked the final appearance in the maroon and gold for senior guard Chante' McKinney. The Gaithersburg, Md., native played in 95 career games and dished out 304 assists, good for sixth in program history.
