Box Score FROSTBURG, Md. – The No. 1-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team opened up its season on the road at Frostburg State University on Saturday and delivered a resounding 21-4 victory over the host Bobcats.
It marked the first official Capital Athletic Conference meeting between the two programs. The Sea Gulls (1-0, 1-0 CAC) have now won 59 straight CAC games, dating back to the 2003 season.
Senior attacker Meagan Osipowich tallied the first goal of the 2011 season for the maroon and gold, as she scored at the 28:22 mark of the first frame off an assist from senior attacker Logan Bilderback. The Sea Gulls would put up an additional 12 goals in the first stanza and allowed just three goals to the Bobcats (0-1, 0-1 CAC).
The Sea Gulls outscored the Bobcats 8-1 the rest of the way.
SU senior attacker Trish DiGirolomo led the way for the Sea Gulls, as she posted a career-high seven points on three goals and a team-high four assists. Senior midfielder Aileen McCausland (one assist), junior midfielder Allie Wheatley and sophomore attacker Roxanne Raab (two assists) each tallied three goals in the victory. Bilderback finished with five points, as she tallied two goals and dished out three assists.
Salisbury senior goalkeeper Julie Ann Caulfield posted her first victory of the 2011 campaign, as she played 42 minutes and staved off one shot, before being relieved by freshman Ashton Wheatley (one save).
Ali Kapustin led the way for Frostburg, as she scored one goal and handed out one assist for a team-high two points. Karoline Miller played the entire contest for the Bobcats in the goal and finished with 11 saves.
The Sea Gulls are set to take on Elizabethtown College next Saturday, Feb. 26, in Lancaster, Pa. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
