Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 1-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team picked up a 16-6 victory over Elizabethtown College at Franklin & Marshall's Tylus Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Jays' (0-1) Sarah Cullinan tallied the game's first goal at the 27:45 mark, before sophomore attacker Katie Bollhorst responded with a free-position goal for the Sea Gulls (2-0). Elizabethtown quickly grabbed a 2-1 lead, as Becky Porter recorded an unassisted goal, before junior midfielder Carrie Bray tallied her first goal of the 2011 season at the 17:34 mark to knot things up. Senior midfielder Aileen McCausland gave Salisbury its first lead of the day with 15:50 remaining in the stanza, a lead that the maroon and gold would not relinquish.
In the second half of play, the Sea Gulls outscored the Blue Jays 10-3 to post their second non-conference victory of the season.
SU senior attacker Trish DiGirolomo led the way in the contest, as she tallied a career-high nine points on three goals and six assists. Junior midfielder Alyssa Fowler recorded four points on three goals and one assist, while McCausland finished with three points, on three goals. Salisbury senior goalkeeper Julie Ann Caulfield staved off 11 shots in the contest, matching her career-high.
Elizabethtown received a team-high two points from Porter (two goals) and Katie Scheurich (one goal, one assist). Blue Jay goalkeeper Rachael Waldman posted nine saves in 60 minutes of action.
The Sea Gulls are set to return to the friendly confines of Sea Gull Stadium this Wednesday, where they will take on Adrian College for the first time in program history. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
