SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 3-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team escaped Sea Gull Stadium with an 8-4 non-conference victory over visiting Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon.

The Battling Bishops (2-2) tallied the game's first goal at the 7:37 mark of the first quarter, as Drew Scharf converted a man-up opportunity off an assist from David Walter. Junior midfielder Sam Bradman responded with an unassisted goal to knot the score with 4:44 remaining in the first quarter.

After nearly 10 minutes of scoreless play in the second frame, junior attackman Kyle Quist struck with his third goal of the season, unassisted, to give Salisbury its first lead of the contest. Following a slashing penalty on the Sea Gulls, the Battling Bishops converted their second man-up goal of the afternoon, with Scharf finding the net for the second time in the contest.

At the end of the first half of play, Salisbury held a 14-9 shots advantage, a narrow 14-13 edge in ground balls and had won 4-of-6 faceoffs.

After eight minutes of scoreless play, senior midfielder Shawn Zordani delivered a major momentum boost for the maroon and gold; the Littleton, Colo., native collected junior attackman Matt Cannone'pass and rifled the ball into the top left corner of the net for a 3-2 lead. Cannone followed that up with a nearly identical play, this time with senior midfielder Perry Craz being rewarded with the goal. Ohio Wesleyan's Spencer Schnell closed out the quarter with a goal with 1:34 remaining to bring the score to 4-3 in favor of the Sea Gulls.

Bradman kicked off the fourth quarter with his second unassisted goal of the day to extend the lead to 5-3; SU would outscore OWU 3-1 the rest of the way, with Zordani, junior attackman Erik Krum and senior midfielder Spencer Smith closing out the scoring for the Gulls.

For the day, Salisbury outshot Ohio Wesleyan 35-20, won the ground balls advantage 29-22 and won 12-of-16 face-offs.

Cannone finished with three assists for a game-high three points, while Bradman and Zordani each chipped in with two goals. SU senior defender Nick Mooney and junior midfielder Dean Rossi collected three and four turnovers, respectively. Senior goalkeeper Johnny Rodriguez notched seven saves in the victory for Salisbury.

The Sea Gulls will open up Capital Athletic Conference play on the road at Wesley College next Saturday, March 19. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
