LEXINGTON, Va. – The No. 1-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team picked up a 12-9 victory in a non-conference duel with Washington & Lee University on Saturday afternoon.

The Sea Gulls (6-0) fell behind early in the contest, as the Generals (4-2) jumped out to a 3-1 lead just nine minutes in. SU was able to tie the score following goals from sophomore Katie Bollhorst and senior Aileen McCausland, with the two goals came less than two minutes apart. Washington & Lee responded with a pair of goals, including a free-position goal from Alli Shearin at the 14:33 mark. With SU trailing 7-5 and less than six minutes remaining in the half, senior attacker Trish DiGirolomo tallied her first goal of the day to close the gap to just one. Bollhorst closed out the half with an unassisted goal with 15 seconds remaining to even the score at 5-5 at the halftime break.

At halftime, the Sea Gulls held a narrow 10-9 shots advantage and picked up nine ground balls compared to just six for the Generals; W&L won seven draw controls, compared to just four for SU.

The Sea Gull offense came out determined early in the second half, as it looked to put the game out of reach for the Generals. SU junior midfielder Alyssa Fowler netted the first three goals of the second half to push the lead to 8-5 in favor of the maroon and gold. Bollhorst tallied her third goal of the contest before senior attacker Logan Bilderback extended the lead to 10-5. Over the final 20 minutes of the contest, Washington & Lee would outscore the visitors 3-2 to bring the score to its final at 12-9.

Salisbury will travel to Roanoke College tomorrow afternoon for another non-conference contest. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
