Box Score 2 OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The No. 16-ranked Salisbury University softball team picked up its second Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep of the week, topping Stevenson University 2-0 and 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon.
Junior pitcher Erika Brittingham earned her ninth win and third no-hitter of the season in the first game, allowing just three walks in the victory while striking out 10 Mustang batters.
Salisbury (14-4, 4-0 CAC) scored the game-winning run in the top of the second inning on a Carly Read single up the middle scoring sophomore Hannah Mills, who reached base on a one-out double.
Freshman Harley Hill scored an insurance run for the Gulls in the top of the seventh inning. Hill reached with a one-out single and advanced to second on a passed ball before coming home on a single by Lindsay Brown.
Salisbury never trailed in the second game, starting the scoring in the top of the first inning. Hill's single to lead off the inning was Salisbury's only hit of the frame as the Gulls manufactured two runs to give senior pitcher Kelly Leary a 2-0 lead to work with.
Lindsay McCabe's two-run home run in the top of the fifth gave the Gulls a 4-0 lead before Stevenson (5-4, 0-2 CAC) scored its first runs of the day in the bottom of the inning.
The Mustangs took advantage of a Sea Gull error to score three unearned runs. Leary worked 5 1/3 innings in the game, picking up her fifth win of the season, allowing four hits while striking out eight.
Brittingham came on in relief in the sixth inning and closed out the game for her first collegiate save.
Hill led Salisbury at the plate, going 4-for-7 on the day, scoring twice while bringing her team-best batting average up to .437.
The Sea Gulls will play their next six games at the SU Softball Field, beginning with this weekend's Sea Gull Invitational, where Salisbury will welcome King's (Pa.) College and Capital University. Salisbury will play at noon and 2 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
