Box Score 2 SALISBURY, Md. – The 16th-ranked Salisbury University softball team outscored its opponents by a combined score of 19-1 on Friday afternoon, winning both games in the first day of the Sea Gull Invitational.
The Sea Gulls (16-4, 4-0 Capital Athletic Conference) got off to a quick start in their first contest, against King's (Pa.) College, scoring all 17 of their runs in the first two innings. Junior pitcher Erika Brittingham was hot in the circle, striking out 11 of the 13 batters she faced while not allowing a single hit in 3 2/3 innings pitched. Sophomores Michelle Gravdahl, Lindsay McCabe and Hannah Mills all slammed home runs over the fence in the lopsided shutout victory.
Freshman Harley Hill went 3-for-3, scoring three runs and driving in three runs. Both totals match her career-highs.
The second game was a little closer than the first, but Salisbury was able to squeak by with the 2-1 win against Capital University. Five Sea Gulls registered hits, but the hit of the day came off the bat of sophomore Carly Read in the bottom of the sixth inning. Her two-out single up the middle brought McCabe home to give Salisbury the one-run lead it needed to earn its second "W" of the day. The victory improved the Sea Gulls' win streak to seven games; they have won 13 of their last 14 contests.
The maroon and gold continue play in the Sea Gull Invitational tomorrow; their first game, against Capital, begins at noon. Before that, though, King's and Capital are set to square off at 10 a.m. For a complete schedule of tomorrow's games, please visit the Sea Gull Invitational website here.
