Box Score SALISBUYRY, Md. – The No. 16-ranked Salisbury University softball team had a trio of big offensive innings on its way to a 10-3 win over Capital University in the final game of the Sea Gull Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Salisbury (17-4) got the scoring started with three runs in the second inning. Junior Casey Zaino's groundball got things going, as she drove home sophomore Lindsay Brown, and an error on the play allowed sophomore Hannah Mills to come around all the way from first. The Sea Gulls added a third unearned run in the frame when sophomore Chelsea Brooks singled up the middle to plate Zaino.
Capital (8-3) got one run off Salisbury starting pitcher Erika Brittingham in the third inning, but Salisbury would give itself some added breathing room in the fifth inning with four runs, highlighted by Mills' two-run blast to left-center field; it was her team-leading fifth home run of the season.
Sophomore Lindsay McCabe put the exclamation mark on the victory, pounding a three-run home run, her fourth of the year, in the top of the seventh inning.
Brooks, Gravdahl, McCabe and freshman Harley Hill each finished the day with two hits to lead the Gulls.
Brittingham earned the win for Salisbury, her 12th of the season, allowing just two hits while striking out 11 in five innings of work.
The Sea Gulls will have the week off before returning to action next Saturday, March 26, when they will host the University of Mary Washington in a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader.
