Sea Gulls score early, down Virginia Wesleyan 6-1

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 21-ranked Salisbury University baseball team snapped a two-game skid with a 6-1 win against Virginia Wesleyan College at the SU Baseball Field on Friday afternoon.

Salisbury (11-8) got the scoring going early, scoring two runs in the first inning and stretching its lead to 3-0 in the second.

In the first, three Sea Gulls reached base on hits and Salisbury took advantage of a pair of Marlin errors. The first Salisbury run of the game came across on a suicide squeeze by junior Tyler Bennett, scoring freshman Bill Root.

Freshman Greg Janofsky opened the second inning with a double and was driven home on a sacrifice fly by freshman Ken O'Neill for the three-run advantage.

Virginia Wesleyan (11-14) put up a run in the top of the third inning, but that was all Salisbury University starting pitcher Chris Greiner would allow in his eight innings of work. The senior struck out six Marlin batters and gave up just six hits as he picked up his third win of the season.

The Sea Gulls would add some late insurance runs, scoring three times in the sixth to secure the victory.

Senior Brad Baylis led the way offensively for Salisbury, going 3-for-4 at the plate and scoring a run while Root and Janofsky each went 2-for-4.

The Sea Gulls will be back on the SU Baseball Field on Saturday, for a non-conference doubleheader against Gallaudet University beginning at 1 p.m.
