ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Salisbury University volleyball team defeated No. 17 New York University, 3-2, and Rochester Institute of Technology, 3-1, to close the Golden Flyer Invitational hosted by Nazareth College at Kidera Gym on Saturday.
SU (8-1) topped the Violets by scores of 25-20, 25-19, 21-25, 12-25 and 15-10 in the first match of the day. The Sea Gulls followed that up with a 22-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-22 victory over the Tigers.
In the NYU match, junior Chelsea Glowacki led Salisbury with 19 kills while freshman Michelle Meehan and junior Carley Todd finished with 19 and 16 digs, respectively. Senior Lindsey Saltzman also contributed nine digs and juniors Jenna Shay and Kristin Jehle had six apiece.
Todd also recorded a team-high 25 assists in the five-game win for a double-double.
Junior Kelly Vieira and Glowacki led all players with 11 kills each versus RIT while Vieira also had a match-best 11 digs. Vieira and Todd were both strong at the net, posting four block assists apiece.
Saltzman directed the Sea Gulls' offense with 18 assists to help the team complete the tournament with a 3-1 mark.
Glowacki an Todd earned spots on the all-tournament team for the Sea Gulls.
SU opens its home schedule Wednesday at Maggs Physical Activity Center at 7 p.m., hosting St. Mary's (Md.) College.
