Box Score YORK, Pa. – Sophomore Julie Poston recorded a team-high 10 kills and junior Carley Todd posted a double-double as the Salisbury University volleyball team defeated York (Pa.) College, 3-1, in Capital Athletic Conference action at Charles Wolf Gym Tuesday.
Poston hit .286 (10 kills, 28 attacks, two errors) while Todd had 21, assists, 11 digs and eight kills to help the Sea Gulls (5-0, 1-0 CAC) stay unbeaten.
SU won the match by scores of 25-18, 15-25, 25-21 and 25-15.
In the first game, the Sea Gulls led by as many as six, 10-4, on a Chelsea Glowacki kill assisted by Todd that forced a Spartans' timeout. A Julie Coombs kill pulled York within two at 11-9 but Salisbury reeled off four consecutive points, including a Michelle Meehan service ace and Glowacki kill, to pull away.
York regrouped in the second game, opening a 17-8 lead after an SU timeout. Salisbury rallied to 19-13 on a block by Kelly Vieira and Jenna Shay, but got no closer as the Spartans knotted the match, 1-1.
Tied at 18-all in the third game, the Sea Gulls used a Poston kill assisted by Todd and a Spartans' ball-handling error to claim a two-point lead they did not lose on the way to reclaiming an advantage in the match.
SU was never seriously threatened in the fourth and final game, closing the match on a 12-5 run and with a Shay kill from Todd.
Meehan finished with a team-high 15 digs while Lindsey Saltzman chipped in a double-double of her own with 16 assisst and 13 digs. Shay had eight kills while Glowacki registered seven kills, four digs and two block assists.
Coombs paced York (2-2, 0-1) with 11 kills. Cortni Rentzel tallied a match-high 33 assists and Ashley Rineman had a match-best 23 digs for the Spartans.
SU travels to Rochester, N.Y., this weekend to play in the Golden Flyer Tournament. The Sea Gulls face host Nazareth College (2 p.m.) and Mount Union College (8 p.m.) on Friday before closing the tournament against New York University (10 a.m.) and Rochester Institute of Technology (12 p.m.) on Saturday.
