Vann leads four in double figures, notches third double-double; Salisbury downs PSU Abington, 84-67

ABINGTON, Pa. – Senior Travon Vann scored 25 points to lead four players in double figures as the Salisbury University men's basketball team defeated Pennsylvania State University Abington, 84-67, on Saturday.

Vann shot 6-for-13 from the field and was 13-of-14 from the free-throw line while adding 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Vann also had six assists and four steals. Sophomore Tim Harwood recorded 16 points, senior Trent Epps had 15 and junior Troy King came off the bench for 10.

Salisbury (6-1) erased a 9-4 deficit early, taking its first lead of the game on a Harwood three-pointer from Vann for a 13-11 lead at the 15:20 mark.

Trailing, 26-25, when Max Alton hit a three with 8:38 remaining the half, the Gulls engineered a 21-4 run over 5:06 to take a 46-30 advantage when King knocked down a three-pointer, assisted by Vann. King led the way in the stretch with six points.

SU went into the break with a 51-36 advantage after shooting 50 percent (16-for-32) from the floor in the first 20 minutes.

Penn State Abington (0-5) cut the Gulls' lead to 56-47 with 14:39 left on a Mike Marvin jumper, but got no closer. Salisbury put together another extended run, scoring 12 of the game's next 15 points to regain control. Harwood hit a three-pointer off a pass from senior Elijah Gore to make it 68-50 with 11:46 to go, punctuating the stretch.

Freshman Kyle Savercool gave Salisbury its largest lead of the day, 78-55, with another three from King with 6:42 left and the Gulls cruised to their third straight victory.

SU shot 39 percent in the second half to finish at 45 percent for the game, connecting on 27-of-60 attempts. SU also buried nearly 46 percent of its shots from long range, hitting 11 for the game.

Salisbury outrebounded the Nittany Lions, 38-32, and turned 21 Abington turnovers into 24 points.

Marvin scored 19 points to pace three Abington players that finished in double digits.

Salisbury is back in action at Goucher College at 7:30 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 5.
