FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Ninth-ranked University of Mary Washington handed the Salisbury University women's basketball team a 52-23 Capital Athletic Conference defeat at the Anderson Center on Saturday.

Salisbury (11-9, 8-4) held UMW to one of its worst shooting performances of the season, making just 35.2 percent of its field goal attempts while the Eagles' 52 points mark the second-lowest output of the year.

Freshman Anna Hackett led the Sea Gulls with five points, two assists and two steals. Aubrey Howland paced the Eagles with 11 points and nine rebounds off the bench while Katie Wimmer chipped in with 10 points and three boards.

The Eagles (21-0, 12-0 CAC), who never trailed, scored the game's first five points before Hackett hit a three-pointer to get Salisbury on the scoreboard at the 15:45 mark. UMW then went on a 12-2 run over 12:26 to open 17-5 lead with 3:19 left in the half.

UMW went into the break leading, 24-7.

Junior Katie McGahagan knocked down a jump shot to cut the deficit to 16 at 25-9 with 2:18 gone in the second half and senior Meghan Dunn followed with one of her own to make it a 27-11 game with 15:30 remaining but that was as close as Salisbury got the rest of the day.

McGahagan, Dunn and juniors Nicole Sisco and Cinthia Ruiz had four points apiece for Salisbury. Sisco pulled down six rebounds, Dunn four and McGahagan three.

SU is back in action when it travels to St. Mary's (Md.) College for a 6 p.m., tip-off on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
