Box Score

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team defeated St. Mary's (Md.) College, 60-52, on Wednesday to clinch a home game in the upcoming Capital Athletic Conference tournament for the first time since the 2002-03 season.

Three Sea Gulls scored double figures led by freshman Anna Hackett's first career double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds as SU (12-9, 9-4 CAC) also snapped a two-game losing streak.

Junior Katie McGahagan scored a game-high 18 points on 7-for-14 shooting and pulled down nine rebounds for the Sea Gulls. Senior KC Curran had 11 points, three assists and three rebounds, while junior Nicole Sisco chipped in with nine points and a game-best 11 boards. Hackett also dished out six assists for Salisbury.

The Sea Gulls ran out to a 7-0 lead in the game's first 2:19 on a three-pointer by Curran and jumpers from Sisco and McGahagan. St. Mary's (8-15, 6-8), though, rallied with seven straight points of its own – all from Raven Owens – to take its first lead of the game, 13-11, on a three midway through the half.

Then, SU went on a 5-0 run to take the lead for good. Hackett jumpstarted the stretch, which ended with Salisbury ahead 21-16, with a three-point play at the 7:16 mark. Owens hit another three-pointer to pull the Seahawks within 21-19 with 4:44 left before the break, but the Sea Gulls closed the half with a 13-7 run to take a 34-26 lead into the locker room.

The Sea Gulls opened the second half with another extended run, scoring 12 of the first 15 points to lengthen their lead to 46-26 at the 14:28 mark. McGahagan scored eight points in that time, including six consecutive and the Seahawks could not recover.

Senior Milan Dry hit a jumper to give SU its first 20-point bulge of the night at 53-33 with 9:16 left. St. Mary's shaved the deficit to less than 10 points with inside a minute to play.

Owens scored 16 points and Sophie Pruden grabbed five rebounds to pace the Seahawks.

The Sea Gulls travel to play Frostburg State University at 1 p.m., on Saturday.
