Sea Gulls improve conference record to 6-0 with 24-3 win over Wesley

SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 1 Salisbury University men's lacrosse team defeated Capital Athletic Conference foe Wesley College on Wednesday night, 24-3, at Sea Gull Stadium.

The Sea Gulls were led by senior attackman Erik Krum, who set career highs with nine points and seven goals. Junior midfielder Ryan Clarke was Salisbury's main distributor with four assists. 

Salisbury started the game strong; scoring 10 goals in the first quarter. Senior attackman Tony Mendes and Krum both netted three scores in the period while senior midfielder Sam Bradman chipped in with two to help the Gulls take a 10-0 lead at the end of the period.

Senior attackman Matt Cannone and Clarke added their first scores in the second quarter. Krum and Mendes both netted goals as the Gulls took a 14-2 lead into halftime.

Cannone and Mendes both finished the game with six points on four goals and two assists.

Salisbury added eight more points in the third quarter. The Gulls outshot the Wolverines 20-6 in the period, won 8-of-10 faceoffs and converted on all seven clear attempts.

Krum, who has a team-best 51 goals on the season, led the squad in the quarter with three more tallies. Senior attackman Kyle Quist, sophomore attackman Rhett DePol and junior midfielder Lanny Ellis all added their first goals of the game to give Salisbury a 22-3 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The Sea Gulls added two more goals in the fourth quarter from Quist and freshman midfielder Ryan Lucey to finish the game.

Salisbury outshot Wesley 52-19 for the game and was successful on 26-of-31 clears. The team also scored on 2-of-3 man-up opportunities.

Scott Brozey, Drew Hammer and James Moss each scored a goal in the game for Wesley.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Taylor continued his strong season by making three saves and not allowing a goal to earn the win.

Salisbury will be in action again on Saturday as the Gulls travel to take on CAC opponent Stevenson University. The game is set for 7 p.m.
