Sea Gulls pick up hard-fought 12-10 win at TCNJ

Box Score

EWING, N.J. – The No. 1 Salisbury University women's lacrosse team, facing arguably its toughest remaining regular-season test, passed that test Friday evening against No. 6 The College of New Jersey, with a 12-10 win.

Junior Katie Bollhorst led the Salisbury (14-0) attack with a game-high seven points, netting four goals and dishing out three assists. The four goals matches a career high for the Severna Park, Md., attacker.

Bollhorst gave Salisbury an early lead, scoring her first goal of the contest just 3:14 into the first half. TCNJ (11-3) answered with four consecutive goals, three coming from Lauren Pigott, to take a 4-1 lead with 21:29 remaining in the first half. Junior Lauren Feusahrens ended the Lion run with a goal at the 18:29 mark, the first of three goals in the contest for the Solomons Island, Md., native.

After Bollhorst's second goal of the game and then a goal by freshman Bethany Baer to even the score at 4-4, each side traded goals to end the half. The first half scoring was capped with Bollhorst netting her third goal of the contest with one second remaining on the game clock, to make it 6-6 after 30 minutes of play.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first half, with the teams trading goals and neither squad taking control of the game. Salisbury took the lead for good, at 11-10, on a goal by senior Allie Wheatley with 7:01 remaining in the contest. Three minutes later, Bollhorst scored her fourth goal of the game to give the Sea Gulls their biggest lead to that point in the game at 12-10, with 3:38 left in the game. Salisbury kept TCNJ off the scoreboard for the remainder of the contest, giving the Sea Gulls a hard-fought victory.

Sophomore Ashton Wheatley made the lead stand up, stopping 11 Lion shots, matching her career-high mark. She also collected three ground balls for the Sea Gulls.

Senior Amanda Holsclaw added two goals for the Sea Gulls, as did classmate Allie Wheatley.

Pigott and Trenna Hill each had four goals for TCNJ.

The Sea Gulls wrap up their five-game roadtrip on Sunday, heading to Owings Mills, Md., facing off against Stevenson University. Game time is set for 1 p.m. Salisbury returns home on Wednesday, April 18, with Capital Athletic Conference and Route 13 rival Wesley College coming to Sea Gull Stadium. The contest is slated to start at 4 p.m.
