Sea Gulls advance to CAC championship game with 19-6 win over York

SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 1 Salisbury University men's lacrosse team advanced to its 17th-consecutive Capital Athletic Conference tournament championship game with Wednesday's 19-6 victory over York (Pa.) College in the tournament semifinal game.

Salisbury has played in the conference championship game every season since the Sea Gulls joined the CAC and is looking for its 16th CAC title.

Senior attackman Matt Cannone led the team with eight points in the game on three goals and five assists. Cannone is now tied for third on Salisbury's all-time career assists list with 138 assists.

The Sea Gulls started the game off quickly by scoring two goals in the first 57 seconds of the game. Senior attackman Kyle Quist scored the first goal of the game just 38 seconds into the game before senior midfielder Sam Bradman scored 19 seconds later to give the Gulls an early 2-0 lead. Bradman led the team with four goals on the day and added two assists for six points.

Bradman's effort allowed him to move up to No. 4 on the program's all-time career goals list with 183 and No. 7 on the all-time career assists list with 98.

The Gulls took a 5-1 lead into the second quarter and added five more goals in the period to take a 10-2 into the half. Bradman and senior attackman Erik Krum both netted two scores in the quarter.

Salisbury dominated the half outshooting the Spartans 24-16, winning 10-of-13 faceoffs and converting on 10-of-12 clear attempts.

Senior midfielder Cory Nowak started the third quarter with a goal just 11 seconds into the period to start a seven-goal quarter. Cannone led the Gulls in the quarter with all three of his scores to help the team take a 17-2 lead into the fourth period.

The Sea Gulls' final two tallies came from junior midfielder Ryan Clarke and sophomore attackman Rhett DePol to cap off the game.

York was led by attackman Tyler Hutson with three goals in the game.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Taylor picked up his 18th victory while making five saves on the day.

Salisbury will be in action again on Saturday in the CAC championship game against the Stevenson University, which topped St. Mary's College of Maryland, 10-8. Saturday's contest is set for 2 p.m.
