Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 24 Salisbury University volleyball team defended its home court this weekend, finishing off a four-match sweep of the Sea Gull Classic with 3-0 wins against Baldwin Wallace University and DeSales University on Saturday at Maggs Physical Activities Center.

The wins allowed Salisbury to claim the team title while senior Jenna Shay was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player and sophomore libero Michelle Meehan was also named to the All-Tournament Team.

Shay registered 25 kills on the weekend, with a .339 hitting percentage. She also had eight digs and a pair of blocks. Meehan had a team-best 48 digs during the tournament, and 10 service aces to go with four assists.

Salisbury collected its first win on Saturday by scores of 25-18, 25-14, 25-22 over Baldwin Wallace. After falling behind, 2-1, in the opening moments, Salisbury rattled off a 13-3 run, with three kills coming from senior Chelsea Glowacki. Salisbury cruised to the first set, with the final two points coming on kills from freshman Ashlyn Tapley. The Odenton, Md., product had six kills in the first set and finished the match with nine.

Tapley, Shay and senior Kristin Jehle each had three kills in the second set. Salisbury would gradually pull away in the frame, going on a 7-3 run to close things out.

The final set was narrow throughout, featuring 11 ties and five lead changes. The final lead change came after the Yellow Jackets held a 21-20 edge. Freshman Lindsay Tapley put away an assist from Todd to tie the set at 21-21 and Jehle gave the Gulls the lead for good with a kill, one of seven in the set for her. Jehle finished with a team-best 10 kills in the match.

Salisbury allowed Baldwin Wallace to hit just .115 in the match, coming up with 100 digs in the three sets, including 20 from Meehan and 19 from senior Kelly Vieira.

Salisbury's tournament-clinching victory was another dominant performance, as the Gulls took the win over DeSales with set scores of 25-9, 25-21, 25-13; it marked the ninth three-set win this season.

Vieira and senior Julie Poston led the way with seven kills each. Vieira got things rolling with five of her kills in the opening set. Salisbury started the frame on a 7-0 run and never looked back.

In the second, Salisbury trailed as late as 21-20, but a 5-0 run closed things out for the victory. Shay tied the set with a kill before a pair of attack errors gave the Sea Gulls (13-1) a little breathing room. Junior Sarah Hall gave Salisbury a set-point opportunity, which the Gulls got off a Bulldog error. Hall had four kills in the set.

Salisbury never trailed in what turned out to be the final set, putting the match away with a 10-3 run, capping off the day with a Glowacki kill.

The Sea Gulls will return to action on Tuesday night, continuing play in the Capital Athletic Conference, as they travel to St. Mary's (Md.) College. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
