SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University volleyball team picked up its second win of its current three-game home stretch with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-18, 25-13) victory over Capital Athletic Conference opponent Penn State University-Harrisburg at Maggs Physical Activities Center on Thursday night.

The Sea Gulls took the first four points of the match and opened on an 18-5 run to take quick control of the first set. Junior Mattie Smith opened the match with a kill, her first of five on the night, and a service ace by freshman Krista Pecenka, along with two Lion ball-handling errors gave the Gulls their first points before Harrisburg would respond.

Freshman Katie Stouffer and junior Julie Poston both tallied three kills in the first set to lead SU (24-4, 4-1 CAC), as all three of Stouffer's kills came in the opening run.

Poston tallied two-straight kills, as junior Michelle Meehan followed with two-consecutive service aces to get Salisbury within one point of winning the first game; senior Tam Weems added the kill that closed the first set.

The second set remained close until the later moments, as the Lions stayed within four points until the score was tied, 14-14.

From there, another Smith kill sparked an 11-4 run that closed the set and gave the Sea Gulls the 2-0 lead in the match.

After a service ace by freshman Gretchen Vandermeer, Smith tallied another kill to push SU's lead to 17-15, and the Gulls would not look back.

Junior Nikki Binetti grabbed two kills, including the one to close the set, and Stouffer, who led the team with eight on the night, tallied another during the run.

Leading 4-3 in the third frame, Salisbury hit its stride and took a 15-4 run to a big lead; after a Lion attack error, Smith and Weems would team up for a block, followed by another block by Weems and junior Kirby Buttry to spark the stretch.

Weems would then tally a kill, followed by another Vandermeer service ace to push Salisbury's lead to 9-3, forcing a PSU timeout.

Stouffer and Weems both hit three kills in the final game, as all three of Stouffer's and Weems' final two would come in the rest of the run, giving the Gulls a 19-7 lead; Weems finished second on the team with seven kills on the night.

Salisbury would continue on to win the match, as sophomore Jordan Lawson closed the final set with her second kill of the frame.

Vandermeer led the team with 17 assists, while senior Jess Tallant led with eight digs.

The Sea Gulls will close out their homestand on Saturday at Maggs PAC, as they will host Frostburg State University for their "Dig Pink" match and senior day; the match is set for 12 p.m.
