Smith's career day leads Sea Gulls over Bobcats

FROSTBURG, Md. - The No. 7 Salisbury University men's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 in the Capital Athletic Conference with its 11-2 victory over Frostburg State University on Saturday.

Junior midfielder Tyler Smith had a break-out game to lead the Sea Gulls with four goals, including the first goal for SU (9-2) to tie the game after Frostburg took a quick lead.

The Bobcats scored at the 10:10 mark in the first quarter for an early lead, but Salisbury would answer with a 9-0 run until Frostburg would score again in the fourth quarter.

Tyler Smith score his first and was followed nine seconds later by junior defender Zeke Smith, who gave the Gulls the lead on an assist from freshman midfielder Jake Rotman. Zeke Smith has now scored five goals this season, three of which have come in the past two games.

Attackmen, senior Stephen Norris and sophomore Wade Korvin, both scored in the quarter and were the other two Gulls with multiple goals as they each scored two in the game.

Junior midfielder Greg Korvin was the fifth scorer in the first quarter, giving Salisbury a 5-1 lead heading into the second quarter. With that lead, Wade Korvin netted his second in the second quarter, allowing the Gulls to go into halftime leading 6-1.

At the half, Salisbury was outshooting Frostburg, 24-15, and had won 8-of-9 faceoffs. 

In the third, Norris added his second at the 11:39 mark for the only goal in the quarter.

Tyler Smith took over the game in the fourth quarter with three-consecutive goals for Salisbury. His first two came in the first five minutes of the quarter, including a man-up score, to give the Gulls a 9-1 lead. After the Bobcats' second goal, Tyler Smith added his third.

The Gulls capped the game with the first-career goal by freshman midfielder Thomas Cirillo.

Taylor earned the win, playing 56:58 in the goal and making a season-high 17 saves.

Salisbury will be back in action on Saturday at Sea Gulls Stadium as it hosts CAC-foe Marymount (Va.) University; the opening faceoff is set for 3 p.m.
