GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The No. 22 Salisbury University volleyball team made quick work of both Rutgers University-Camden (25-13, 25-14, 25-15) and host Gettysburg College (25-15, 25-7, 25-21) Saturday afternoon to conclude action at the Battlefield Classic. With four 3-0 sweeps over the weekend, the Sea Gulls are 4-0 to start a season for the fourth consecutive year.

For their strong performances over the weekend, juniors Mattie Smith and Michelle Meehan were both named to the All-Tournament squad. Smith put down 40 kills on 99 attempts for a .313 attack percentage while Meehan compiled 73 digs and averaged 6.08 digs per set.

The Sea Gulls dominated in nearly every statistical category this weekend. Salisbury hit at a .360 clip while holding opponents to a .072 attack percentage. Salisbury held considerable advantages in kills (164-78), assists (142-73), aces (36-12) and digs (248-154).

Salisbury is back in action next weekend (Sept. 6-7) when the Sea Gulls compete in Muhlenberg College's Buttermaker Tournament. Salisbury is set to play Rutgers-Camden and DeSales University Friday before second round action on Saturday. Last season, the Sea Gulls took home the Buttermaker Tournament title with four victories in two days.

Smith took over thirty percent of Salisbury's swings against Rutgers-Camden and finished with 10 kills on 27 attempts. Julie Poston, who hit at a .469 clip over the weekend, put down seven kills on 13 attempts and junior Nikki Binetti had six kills on 11 attempts.

Sophomore setter Kacey Franz, who averaged 10.25 assists per set in the tournament, dished out 22 helpers quarterbacking the offense. On the back line, Meehan led the way with 18 digs while freshman Gina Fischetti compiled eight digs.

The Sea Gulls followed their 11-ace performance against Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.) Friday night with 10 more aces against the Scarlet Raptors. Meehan collected five more aces to push her season total to 10 while Smith added two of her own.

The Salisbury defense held the Rutgers-Camden offense to a -.024 attack percentage as the Scarlet Raptors had more attack errors (17) than kills (15). The Sea Gulls front line recorded a season-high six total blocks.

Freshman outside hitter Katie Stouffer was efficient the entire weekend and finally broke out with 12 kills on 21 attempts against Gettysburg. Meanwhile, Smith put down 11 kills on a team-high 30 attempts and also compiled 10 digs for her second double-double of the 2013 season. Poston only needed 15 attempts to collect nine kills.

Franz collected a season-high 41 assists and hit at a .429 clip (three kills on seven attempts). Meehan tied her career high with 24 digs and senior Jess Tallant had 15 digs to set a new career high.

Senior middle hitter Tam Weems concluded a solid all-around weekend with four kills, two service aces and two block assists against the Bullets. After four matches, Weems is tied for the team lead with seven total blocks and ranks second with nine aces.

Salisbury did not commit an attack error in the second set and put down 13 kills on 23 attempts. The Sea Gulls hit at a .565 clip in the second frame while holding the Bullets to a -.125 attack percentage.
