Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The No. 23 Salisbury University volleyball team added another regular-season tournament championship to its tally this season, winning the Blue Jay Classic at Elizabethtown College with a pair of 3-0 sweeps over Cairn University and State University of New York at Cortland on the second day of the weekend tournament on Saturday.

Sophomore Kacey Franz was named the MVP of the tournament, and she was joined by junior Mattie Smith on the all-tournament team.

Salisbury 3, Cairn 0

The Sea Gulls began day two of the Blue Jay Classic with its second 3-0 sweep of the tournament, defeating Cairn, 25-11, 25-11, 25-10.

SU jumped on the Highlanders early, scoring the first five points of the opening set and began the game on a 9-2 run. Four of the first five points for the Gulls came on kills from juniors Michelle Meehan, Julie Poston, Nikki Binetti and Smith; Poston, who led the team with 12 kills, tallied two during the run.

The Sea Gulls never led by less than six in the set, eventually winning by a 14-point margin, while Poston added three more kills.

The Highlanders kept the second set closer in the early moments, as neither team led by more than two, until the score was tied, 10-10.

From that point, Salisbury went on a 15-1 run to end the set, with the help of nine Cairn attack errors.

Poston added two more kills, while Smith, freshman Katie Stouffer and senior Tam Weems each tallied one during the run, as well.

Binetti's kill to start the third set sparked an 8-0 run for SU to begin the game, before Cairn would get its first point. The Highlanders would cut the lead to 8-3, but it was the closest they would get, as Salisbury rode a 17-7 run to take the match.

Poston and Binetti would each register two kills in the remainder of the set, and freshman Shannon Russell ended the match with two service aces.

Franz led the team in assists (20) and digs (14), while Meehan tallied 13 digs.

The Sea Gulls clinched the tournament championship by defeating the Red Dragons, 25-21, 25-19, 25-21.

The team was led by Smith's 14 kills, while Stouffer tallied eight and Poston registered six.

Meehan led the team in digs with 17, and Franz totaled 20 assists.
