Sea Gulls combine for 10 first-place finishes; fall to Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Salisbury University men's and women's swimming teams competed against Catholic University of America on Saturday, as the men fell 160-100, and the women were defeated 144-116.

Men

Sophomore Okan Eyigor was a part of three first-place finishes on the day. Eyigor finished first in the 100-yard backstroke, earning nine points with a time of 56.16 seconds. Eyigor's second win of the day came in the 200-yard backstroke, recording a time of 2:05.58 and nine points.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Sea Gulls tallied the top three finishes. Eyigor, along with freshman Conor Johnston and juniors Jake Blazer and Will Gough, finished first in a time of 1:31.51, garnering 11 points. Placing behind them in second with a time of 1:36.88 were freshmen Andre Lipiec and Stephen Arcidiacono and, sophomores Scott Schirmer and Bill James. Seniors Colin Forbes and Philip Kuldell, and juniors Chris Ek and Jeremy Powell rounded out the top three, touching the wall at 1:39.76.

Gough also had a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.18 seconds and nine points.

Women

In the 200-yard freestyle, sophomore Victoria Radcliffe placed first in a time of 2:03.20. In her second win of the day, Radcliffe finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke, recording a time 2:41.80. Radcliffe's third and final first-place finish came in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:20.84.

Sophomore Nicole Marders placed first in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:22.87, while sophomoreLayne Gable finished right behind her in 2:22.91. Marders tallied her second first-place nod of the day with a 1:02.35 finish in the 100-yard butterfly.

Freshmen Bizu Baldinazzo and Bailey Wilson, along with Marders and Gable, claimed first-place in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:49.02. Senior Melissa Alessandrini, freshman Kelsey Wumer and sophomores Stephanie Wilson and Claudia Guay finished second in a time of 1:54.67.

The Sea Gulls will travel to York College of Pennsylvania on Saturday in their first Capital Athletic Conference meet of the year. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
