Taylor continues climb up program's saves list as Sea Gulls down Bobcats, 10-5

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 3 Salisbury University men's lacrosse team picked up its first Capital Athletic Conference win on Saturday, defeating Frostburg State University, 10-5, at Sea Gull Stadium.

Senior midfielder Brandon Kendrick led the offense with three goals and four points, while senior attackman Rhett DePol tallied a team-high two assists.

Frostburg's Devin Colegrove netted the first goal of the game to give the Bobcat's an initial lead.

Kendrick answered with his first goal to tie the game, taking a pass on the crease from sophomore attackman Brady Dashiell, turning and shooting.

Junior midfielder Sean Fitzgerald ripped a shot from the right wing less than two minutes later to give SU its first lead, 2-1.

The Bobcats tied the game by the end of the first quarter, but a three-goal second gave the Sea Gulls a 5-2 halftime lead.

Kendrick dodged a defender and planted a shot from the left wing at the 10:21 mark of the frame, before driving left to beat the keeper on the crease 51 seconds later to give the Gulls a two-goal lead.

Junior attackman Mike Kane netted a man-up goal to give Salisbury its lead at the break.

At halftime, the Sea Gulls led in shots, 31-8, ground balls, 21-14, and faceoff wins, 8-of-9. Sophomore midfielder Preston Dabbs dominated at the "X" in the first half and finished the game 11-of-14 in faceoffs.

Senior midfielder Greg Korvin started the second half with a low shot, while driving right, to push the lead to four goals.

Ripping a shot from the right wing, sophomore midfielder Thomas Cirillo added another score before Frostburg's Ryan Serio would score the Bobcat's first goal since the first quarter. Serio led FSU with three goals in the game.

With an 7-3 lead to start the fourth, senior attackman Luke Phipps, senior midfielder Donovan Lange and sophomore midfielder Davis Anderson opened the quarter with three-straight scores to push the lead to 10-3.

Despite Serio netting his final two goals, SU finished the win, as the Sea Gull offense totaled 60 shots and the defense forced 25 FSU turnovers.

Senior goalkeeper Alex Taylor played the entire game for his seventh win, while making eight saves, moving him past Bucky Dennig to No. 5 all-time in the program's saves list with 445.

Salisbury now looks forward to its War on the Shore matchup with Washington (Md.) College on Tuesday at Sea Gull Stadium; the opening faceoff is set for 5 p.m.
